In the past decade or so, celebrity side hustles have become all the rage. We’ve got actors buying sports teams, supermodels selling alcohol, and plenty of celeb skincare brands. But perhaps the most common trend of all is the pop star to cosmetics mogul pipeline.

We have billion-dollar brands like Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty and Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty, along with popular lines from Ariana Grande (r.e.m. beauty), Lady Gaga (Haus Labs), and Harry Styles (Pleasing). And while the cosmetics world is certainly very lucrative (just ask Hailey Bieber), it seems not all A-listers have the urge to launch a beauty line.

“My stepdad asked me the other day, ‘Why are you the only one without a makeup line?’ I was like, ‘‘Cause that’s not my passion.’ He goes, ‘That’s the right answer,’” she recalled. “And it made so much sense. It’s like, ‘I don’t have a makeup line because I’m not a makeup artist.’”

Despite her stance, Miley was quick to emphasize that she’s not judgmental of celebs that do pursue side hustles — using her godmother Dolly Parton as a great example.

“Some people operate differently, you know?” she said. “Dolly always says, ‘You do you, and I’ll do me, together we’ll be us.’ This woman [sells] cupcakes, Dollywood, amusement parks, all the things. I’ve never felt like that was really for me. And I’ve always admired that she can and wants [to] — it’s like a deep passion for her. She absolutely adores it.”

As for where her heart lies, Miley concluded: “To me, it’s me by a piano writing songs and telling my stories, and then creating a gorgeous visual in support of that. That’s what I love to do.”

If there’s one thing about Miley, we can always count on her to keep it real. And, on X, fans have been praising her for having “common sense” on the matter, instead of being “money hungry.”
