Young Catholics at Massachusetts school eager to follow Pope Leo's papacy

Students at Austin Preparatory School in Reading, Massachusetts, began Friday in prayer for the new pope.
A statue of St. Augustine watches over students as they enter the school, which follows the teachings of the Augustinian order.
"To learn that Pope Leo was not only the first American pope but also the first Augustinian pope was really special," student Cecilia Goldsmith said.
Austin Prep is the only Augustinian secondary school in Massachusetts and one of 11 in of North America — centered around the three principles of truth, unity and love.
"The truth is, really, what we are focused on with our academics and the rigor of our courses," Goldsmith said.
"It's even as simple as around the hallway — just always trying to be outgoing with each other," another student said.
"One mind, one heart intent upon God — all of the things that we teach our students here," Austin Preparatory Head of School Dr. James Hickey said.
Students held watch parties at the school Thursday and were overjoyed when Pope Leo emerged at the Sistine Chapel.
As young Catholics, they said they'll follow the pope’s papacy as he leads the church in the same values as their school.
"I hope that he continues to help all young people discover their faith," Goldsmith said.
Pope Leo’s election comes at an exciting time for the school, as well. Commencement for seniors is next Friday.
