LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) - The Nebraska State Patrol is again accepting applications for new troopers after it saw a significant response during the first application window.

NSP has reopened that window, reporting a 36-percent increase in people interested in becoming troopers this year.

The agency will now be accepting applications through this Friday, May 2. Those who apply before the end of Friday will be considered for the next NSP training class, which begins in July.

Applicants who are accepted will be paid $28.85 an hour during the six months of training, which will then increase to $32.45 an hour once they’ve graduated from the academy in December.

Benefits including a retirement plan, medical, vision, and dental coverage, as well as free college tuition for all troopers and their dependents at any state university or community college in Nebraska.

Applications can be submitted on NSP’s website.
