North Dakota Lawmakers To Vote On Ending Daylight Saving Time
BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — Legislators are considering a bill that would eliminate Daylight Saving Time in North Dakota.
The Senate, State, and Local Government committee heard testimony from many groups and individuals both for and against the bill.
While a historian and a sleep physician were among those in favor of the bill, groups opposed include a sports league, general contractors, and financial groups.
Grand Forks, Fargo Moorhead West Fargo, and Greater North Dakota Chamber all testified in opposition to the bill.
“Daylight Saving Time does not create daylight. It is a mandate to wake early and sleep less. When you spring your clock forward an hour you’re making your alarm clock sound an hour earlier the next day and every day after there until you put it back to standard time. That leads to a chronic deprivation of sleep an average of nineteen minutes less,” said Jay Pea the Save Standard Time President.
The bill returns to the House.
