Sometimes you just can’t get enough of that old Russian humor.
If there’s anything the Russian writers could do, it was producing outlandish comedy with their pens. Among their best was the short writer and playwright Anton Chekhov. Meanwhile, in America, it’s hard to outdo Neil Simon, creator of such hits as The Odd Couple and All American Girl, for bright humor on the stage.
What happens when you meld the two together? You get Neil Simon’s “The Good Doctor,” a brightly comical evening of Chekhov’s funniest tales produced with an all-American spin.
North Carolina History Theater is presenting the piece as its first offering of 2025, on March 14-16 and 21-23 at Orringer Auditorium on the Craven Community College Campus, 800 College Court, New Bern.
The shows are 7 p.m. on March 14, 21 and 22 with 2 p.m. matinees on March 15, 16 and 23.
The show is directed by Shannon Wetherington-Bivens and includes an experienced cast who bring the many characters who tell their stories over the course of a dozen vignettes.
