WEBVTT BRENNAN: CONCRETE WALLS, STEEL BEAMS, AND ORANGE BARRELS. CONSTRUCTION ON THE GATEWAY CAN BE SEEN IN EVERY DIRECTION. CONSTRUCTION ENGINEER JACK VALETTI SAYS THE PROJECT'S COMPLETION DATE HAD TO BE EXTENDED FOR PERMITTING ISSUES. COMPLETION DATE IS MAY 19 OF 2019. BRENNAN: I'M STANDING ON THE 85 EXIT, GETTING ONTO 385 SOUTHBOUND. YOU CAN SEE CONSTRUCTION HAPPENING BEHIND ME. HOWEVER, VALETTI TELLS ME MOST OF THE COMPLETED WORK IS UNDERGROUND. MR. VALETTI: TO BUILD UPWARD, WE HAVE TO GO DOWNWARD FIRST IN THIS INDUSTRY, SO WE'VE COMPLETED SOME FOUNDATION WORK. BRENNAN: THIS IS A LOOK AT THE GATEWAY FROM SKY 4. THE PROJECT INCLUDES 13 BRIDGES. VALETTI SAYS THE BRIDGE FROM WOODRUFF ROAD TO 385 NORTH IS THE FURTHEST ALONG. MR. VALETTI: THAT ONE WILL PROBABLY BE COMPLETED EARLY SPRING. BRENNAN: ALSO, HE SAYS THERE'S BEEN SOME CHANGES TO THE BRIDGE OVER GARLINGTON ROAD. MR. VALETTI: WE'RE ACTUALLY REPLACING THESE BRIDGE STRUCTURES, AS OPPOSED TO REHABBING THEM. BRENNAN: WHICH RAISES THE GATEWAY'S $231 MILLION PRICE TAG TO $238 MILLION. AS FOR LANE CLOSURES, VALETTI SAYS THEY CHANGE EVERY DAY, AND ARE DIFFICULT FOR CONTRACTORS TO PREDICT. MR. VALETTI: THEY GOT TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THEY NEED TO DO. MANY TIMES, THEY DON'T KNOW UNTIL A DAY IN ADVANCE, FEW HOURS IN ADVANCE, AS THINGS ARE CHANGING. WEATHER, EQUIPMENT, PERSONNEL AVAILABILITY. BRENNAN: HE SAYS DRIVERS SHOULD JUST EXPECT LANE CLOSURES IN THE EVENING HOURS. BRENNAN MCDAVID, WYFF NEWS 4, IN
