The theme of the Latvian Architecture award 2020 was UNEXPECTED CONSEQUENCES. The theme makes one wonder about the consequences that one cannot foresee when planning or drawing a project. About the cubic meters of construction waste that are created or the fortunate coincidences that may sometimes happen. It also makes one think about the pandemic and how it has rendered certain places and things useless while others have gained new functionality and praise. The unexpected will always happen and that's why it is important to leave some room for it in your plans.
